Fish 'n' chip ride - Ton Kenfig WED 18th AUG
9 Riders with their horses and 10 walkers some with dogs arrived at Kenfig Car park for the planned ride. The weather was kind with some sunshine. Orders were taken for the fish & chip supper, then the walkers headed off towards Kenfig Pool lead by Sally and The Hill Family. The riders led by Tina llewellyn & Richard Hodgkin set out. On what turned out to be an enjoyable ride down the bridleway and along the beach head on to the mouth of the River Kenfig. There was plenty of opportunity for a good gallop, and quite a few in the group took advantage of this. The group then went down the beach where some chose to canter through the surf right back along the beach to Sker Point. They were then able to return to the car park along the track where Fish & Chips were delivered by Mair & Jane. After they refreshed themselves with a quick glass of shandy in the Prince of Wales. A GOOD TIME WAS HAD BY ALL !

British Riding Clubs Novice Winter Championships
Hartbury College
On Sunday 4th April (Easter Sunday) two of our junior teams set off for Hartbury College in Gloucester to attend the British Riding Clubs Novice Indoor Winter Show Jumping Championships. It was a very early start as all competitors had to walk the course between 8 and 9am. Caryl Hardy, one of our instructors accompanied us for the day and we are all very grateful to her for all the advice, instruction and confidence she gave our young jockeys as it was not an easy track, every fence up to height, very solid double and triple combinations and very ‘tight’.
We, unfortunately, were not placed this year, but the experience the day gave everyone will be invaluable. The sun shone for a while and some of us even had a picnic lunch on the ramp of Ellie Hill’s lorry!
So a very big thanks to the Southerndown Waves (Gemma Perret-Jones, Joanna Wilkins, Holly Milward and Meryl Hanmer) and the Southerndown Surfers (Jade Bismire, Mollyann Rees, Ellie Hill and Victoria Bertorelli) for representing Southerndown Riding Club. Also a big thank you to Mair Jones who sat in the spectator’s gallery all day making a note of all the scores (just checking that the judges were adding up properly!) and Janneke and Jane Jones for giving up their day to help with the arena party.
Last, but not least thanks must go to all the mums and dads, grandma’s and grandad’s for all their support in the run up to the show and on the day.

JUNIORS

Picured above: Jade Bizmuire, Danielle Jones & Grace Dalton
We have a fantastic group of young juniors attending Wed evening jump lessons with Anthony at the moment. They are still only very young some only 8years old. Any seniors reading this, come down a little earlier on a Wed and have a look at them. They are fabulous and are learning so much from Anthony. The parents are happy and the kids are thoroughly enjoying themselves. We are hoping to get some junior teams together for any local team jumping competitions and also the Winter Novice indoor show jumping. Anyone interested please think about getting the ponies vaccinated with the Flu jab as you have to have the 1st two jabs before you can enter qualifiers. Any further info contact Janneke on club nights or call Sarah 07832 350207.

Carmen thoroughly enjoyed her experience at Windsor Horse show. She qualified for the Instructors Challenge and competed against the rest of the Nation. She gained lots of experience and knowledge and is committed to continue on with Freyni, to intermediate level
in the future. We wish Carmen & Freyni every success and are very proud that she is part of Southerndown Riding Club. Also we must not forget Liz Jones, the owner of Freyni Rosa, who must have a good eye for young talent and is also a very proud Mum.
